River Clean-up Projects
MAPP's Adopt-A-River Program
Like no other state, Michigan is blessed with beautiful Paddle Pathways.
Recognizing that many of Michigan's rivers are in need of cleaning due to the careless disposal of trash and other debris, the Michigan Association of Paddlesport Providers has established our Adopt-A-River Program.
Though many paddlecraft rentals across Michigan conduct yearly clean-ups, some Michigan rivers or stretches of rivers remain in need of cleaning. Accordingly, we want to broaden our reach, encourage more public involvement, and our mission is to assist anyone we can that is interested in organizing and conducting a river clean-up project in Michigan.
The MAPP Adopt-A-River Program encourages Michigan volunteers to let us help you and your group restore the shine to a stretch of river by removing all litter and debris from the river and adjacent land. And we challenge you to become personally involved in an Adopt-A-River clean-up.
The Program is suitable for student groups, scout troops, recreationists, conservation groups, etc. You provide the manpower, and an Adopt-A-River Clean-up Coordinator will provide "how to" assistance, trash bags, paddlecraft and equipment as needed, transportation assistance, and for the disposal of the trash collected.

Post Your Michigan River Clean-up Project Here!
Each year, various watershed councils, landowner associations, paddling clubs, angling groups, and others conduct clean-ups on rivers in Michigan. If you or your group do so, we'd love to help publicize your clean-up, and hopefully help increase participation in it by posting your effort on the River Clean-up Postings list below.
Please email details of your clean-up to info@michigancanoe.com. So anyone interested in lending a hand can get more information, please include contact information for the coordinator of the project, the name of your group, and the time and place of your river clean-up.
Clean-up Project Dates
Mother Nature has been busy watering our state this spring. River clean-up's are very important after heavy rains. Contact a member livery for information and/or assistance to cleaning a section of a river you love to paddle.
The first week in June is designated as "River Clean-up Week".
